Aragua is a state in Venezuela that was severely affected by two major earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 on June 24, 2017, with the city of La Guaira suffering the most damage. The tremors caused widespread destruction across multiple states including Miranda, Carabobo, Lara, Yaracuy, and Falcon, as well as in the capital, Caracas. Over 700 aftershocks were recorded following the main quakes, and at least 100 buildings in La Guaira were destroyed down to their foundations. The state was placed under military control, and a state of emergency was declared.
