Astrakhan Oblast has implemented fuel rationing based on vehicle license plate numbers, becoming the fifth Russian region to do so due to high demand and supply challenges. The region has experienced multiple incidents including drownings in rivers such as Ahtuba and Volga, traffic fatalities, drone interceptions over its territory, congestion in the Volgo-Kaspiy Canal due to record flood levels, a food poisoning outbreak linked to fish cutlets from a grocery store resulting in 14 hospitalizations and one death with criminal charges filed.
