Brunei is a member state of ASEAN and participated in the Russia–ASEAN summit held in Kazan from June 17-19, 2023. The summit marked the 35th anniversary of Russia's relations with ASEAN and featured discussions on cooperation priorities. During the event, Russian President Putin met with Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, among other regional leaders.
