The Eastern Timor is a member state of the ASEAN association, having joined in 2025. It participated in the Russia–ASEAN summit held in Kazan from June 17-19, 2026, where its Prime Minister Shanana Gomes was present. The country was represented at the summit alongside other ASEAN nations including Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. During the event, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Prime Minister of Eastern Timor.
