Гомельская область является приграничной территорией Белоруссии, что делает ее объектом усиленного внимания со стороны органов безопасности. В период празднования Дня независимости Белоруссии и в связи с угрозами со стороны Украины, были усилены меры безопасности в приграничных районах области. После атаки беспилотника на автобус с детьми из футбольной команды Гомельской области, граждане Белоруссии были перевезены в эту область, а россияне размещены в пункте временного размещения (ПВР). Ситуация на границе с Украиной оценивается как контролируемая, но непростая.
