Mutnovsky is a volcanic area located in southern Kamchatka, Russia, approximately 80 km south of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. On July 2, 2026, it experienced a phreatic eruption with ash plumes reaching about 5,000 meters above sea level, according to the regional branch of the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (FIC EGS RAS). Authorities advised tourists against approaching the area due to risks of landslides and avalanches. The event was linked by a scientist to a major earthquake in July 2025.
