Яракуй is a state in Venezuela where two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, struck on June 24th, causing significant damage and loss of life. The epicenters of these quakes were located within the state, approximately 10 kilometers apart, leading to widespread destruction of buildings and infrastructure. The disaster resulted in substantial economic losses estimated at $6.7 billion, or about 6% of the GDP of the five hardest-hit states including Caracas. The event prompted a state of emergency declaration and international humanitarian response.
