The European Council (Совет ЕС) is an EU institution involved in strategic decision-making, including the extension of economic sanctions against Russia until 31 July 2027. It has been engaged in discussions on new sanction packages, such as the 21st package, with officials noting progress but no consensus yet. The Council also approved a €120 million defense tranche for Moldova and adopted measures targeting gold imports from Sudan to disrupt conflict financing.
