Darya Shipilova was a 28-year-old laboratory worker at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Scientific Research Institute in Shелехов, Irkutsk Oblast. She died in a regional hospital on the night of October 1–2, 2026, from pneumonia of unknown etiology, sparking widespread speculation about possible exposure to plague.
