Franz Rubo was a Russian artist and founder of the Russian school of battle and panoramic painting. He created the original panorama 'The Defense of Sevastopol' in 1905, which was severely damaged during World War II. Soviet artists restored the work in 1954, but this version was largely destroyed in a drone strike on June 10th. Surviving authentic fragments from Rubo's 1905 original were preserved and prepared for exhibition elsewhere.
