Michael Martens is a journalist for the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZh). He is under investigation in Russia following a question he posed during a press conference in Belgrade on August 8, 2023, in which he asked what Europeans could do to help Ukraine kill more Russian soldiers. Russian authorities have opened an уголовное дело (criminal case) against him under part 2 of Article 202 of the Criminal Code (inciting hatred or enmity), and the Moscow Basmanovskiy Court has issued a warrant for his arrest in absentia.
