Metropolitan Hilarion

religious

Metropolitan Ilarión (Alfeev) is a high-ranking religious figure in the Russian Orthodox Church who faced a scandal after being detained in the Czech Republic in May 2026 on suspicion of possessing narcotics. Despite an initial decision to send him to serve in Brazil, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow temporarily suspended that appointment, citing the need for Ilarión to care for his elderly mother. He was instead assigned to serve at the Krestovozdvizhensky Jerusalemian Women's Monastery in the Moscow region.
