Steven Hubbard, a 73-year-old American citizen, was convicted in Russia for participating in combat operations on the side of Ukraine's armed forces and sentenced for mercenary activity. He was released by Russian President Vladimir Putin ahead of a meeting with U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, with Putin citing humanitarian reasons.
