Almost half of the schools in Russia have been liquidated in the last 25 years, and hundreds of the remaining ones have been declared hazardous. By the start of the 2025-2025 academic year, data from the Higher School of Economics Institute for Social Research and Economics indicate that out of 68,800 schools in Russia, only 37,900 remain.
